Threading the River is a seven-day creative rites of passage—an immersion in medicine story, animist writing, ceremony, and the midwifery of your own true song. You'll be held within a living indigenous medicine story filled with thresholds and portals for deepening, journeying, and return. The canyon wren threads its liquid song. The river moves—unhurried, unhurriable—carrying you somewhere deeper than you knew you were going. The river reshapes you. The river restores you. ReStories you. Calls you home.

There is something at the edges of your known world. A call.
You have heard it before. An unmistakeable pull. A longing. Mystery.
Good stories teach us to listen — unassumingly.
They remind us of our interconnectivity.
To touch the rising. To release and compost.
To become like plants in spring and fall.
Re-membering our true nature.
This summer we enter one of the oldest teaching tales of transformation: Jumping Mouse — a Plains story first brought into wide circulation by Hyemeyohsts Storm in Seven Arrows (1972).
It is the story of a small creature who hears something at the edges of the known world — and cannot unhear it. What follows is not a comfortable journey. It is a series of threshold crossings, each asking something precious to be given away. An eye. A way of seeing. Until — blind, alone, at the summit — sitting in the great patient unknowing — she is touched by something vast and beyond.
This is not a story about becoming someone else.
It is a story about what the soul already knows
beneath the old outworn story.
WHAT WE WILL DO TOGETHER
Six thresholds. Six weeks of wild writing, somatic practice, and embodied story medicine. We will crack open the tale's hidden doorways through mythopoetic and feral writing practices — generating poems, vignettes, memoir fragments, and more. The story enters the body. The body enters the writing. The writing enters the threshold.
This is not just a writing program. Writing is one of our tools. This is a creative (w)rite of passage that uses story and the body as its map.

I grew up on the edge of Lake Superior, in an isolated snuggle of land in Upper Michigan. I was swallowed by stories before I knew how to name them — by the forest, by dissolution, by buried rites of passage with no container.
Story has imprisoned me. Story has saved me. Story has transformed me. Story has set me free. Story is not just metaphor. She is alive. She is my favorite medicine.
For over two decades I have been guiding seekers through mythic threshold crossings — using fairy tale, embodied writing, somatic practice, ceremony, and the transformative power of mythos as initiatory map. I hold a Master's in Transformative Language Arts from Goddard College, am SomaSource certified, and spent thirteen years as a Waldorf educator before the stories called me deeper into this work.
I am devoted to Soul, Story, and Season.
And I believe — in my bones — that Story is how we find our way through.
